The Story of Nilu
I once had a dream that I was traveling through the lands of Egypt. On my path, I encountered a young man, and we engaged in conversation. He revealed that he was living with crippling fears, so I asked if it was okay to place my hand on his heart. He said yes, and when I did, the young man started to purr.
We both looked at each other in shock. I told him that the year before, I had another dream where I had turned into a black panther, an experience that had been life-changing for me.
The young man asked what my name was, and I answered.
But he insisted, "No, what is your real name?"
I replied, "My mother wanted to name me Nilufar, a Persian name, but she chose a European name instead that was more known in my birth country."
I continued on my journey through Egypt and found myself in a pond late at night, the moon was shining down on me. The light of the moon opened my arms and revealed many mouths, many mouths that were suddenly placed like a belt around my stomach. That’s when I realized that I had become a water-lily.
With each breath, I experienced more bliss. Each mouth was breathing in the energy of the moon and opening me up further. I was experiencing the fullness of being.
When I awoke, I remembered that the translation of the name Nilufar is water-lily, or lotus flower, in Persian. I could feel there was a connection between the wild cat, the lotus flower, and Egypt.
I started exploring and came across a book that talked about an Egyptian deity by the name of Nefertem, who is known as the goddess of perfume and the blue lotus flower, who had the head of a wild cat.
This dream reconnected me to that name, and I could hear the resonance, the whispering of the name Nilu, and that it would accompany my path going forward.
Nilu’s story is an invitation for you to connect to your imagination, to your own story, to create the atmosphere and space in which you move, breathe, and feel.
